A member of the active medical staff shall be designated as the Medical Director/Physician Advisor as per hospital policy of the Hyperbaric Unit. He/she shall be knowledgeable in the procedures and techniques of HBO and Hyperbaric Medicine. The Medical Director's general areas of responsibility are to:

• Assist in the development of policies governing the use and availability of hyperbaric services for therapy and research.
• Coordinate hyperbaric treatment with other treatment modalities.
• Assist in the development of programs for the orientation and inservice education of technical and supportive hyperbaric unit personnel.
• Assist in compliance with Quality Improvement Standards.

The Medical Director shall also be responsible for clinical review of hyperbaric treatments rendered at the Hyperbaric Unit.
